Another Face of Facebook- Facebook Buy Face.com
Facebook continuing its domination over e-world is now looking forward to acquire the mobile web as well. Recently Facebook bought instagram, a picture sharing mobile app and now it’s time for face.com, the sources has confirmed that Facebook has bought face.com for an undisclosed amount.
Face.com is facial recognition software and can be easily integrated with other third part apps; Face.com itself has 2 apps i.e. photo finder which allows user to find the untagged pictures of him/her self and of their friends. The second app is photo tagger, a widely used app to tag multiple friends at a single time i.e. a group tagging app.
When this news broke out on Monday, the officials of Facebook refused to make any comments and said that they don’t want to comment on rumors. But the statement of Gil Hirsch, the CEO of face.com was something different from that of Facebook officials. The Gil made it clear that the team of Face.com will be focusing on developing the mobile products/apps for Facebook.
The CEO on the official blog of Face.com wrote that “Like our friends at Facebook, we think that mobile is a critical part of people’s lives as they both create and consume content, and share content with their social graph. By working with Facebook directly, and joining their team, we’ll have more opportunities to build amazing products that will be employed by consumers -– that’s all we’ve ever wanted to do,”
This statement doesn’t make it clear that either the face.com will soon be redirected to facebook.com or will it work for Facebook by continuing their separate identity. Eventhough the details of deal between face.com and facebook.com have not been disclosed yet but reports are there, claiming that last month facebook.com was in discussion with face.com to take over face.com for tens of millions of dollars and this month the deal got matured. Anyhow, Facebook finally broke the ice in this matter and said that “People who use Facebook enjoy sharing photos and memories with their friends, and Face.com’s technology has helped to provide the best photo experience. This transaction simply brings a world-class team and a long-time technology vendor in house.” Facebook still didn’t disclose any details regarding the deal and are keeping them confidential.
The analysts are also discussing this fact that Facebook may buy the mobile browser Opera in near future to make its presence on mobile web more effective and profit driven.
