Will Facebook Disappear By 2020? Or Is It Going To Happen Before That?
In tech world, nothing is permanent and when it comes to internet world this fact becomes more obvious. Many websites and networks came and disappeared from the scene. If we talk about some 5 to 6 years back then Yahoo and MSN were the kings of web and Orkut was one of the favorite and mostly used social network, but then what happened? Yahoo and MSN were replaced by Google and Orkut by Facebook. Undoubtedly Facebook and Google are now the monarchies of e-world but for how long it’s going to last? because whatever goes up must come down
The analysts are saying that Facebook may disappear by the year 2020. Recently CNBC talked in their show “Squawk on the Street” with the Eric Jackson, the Founder of Iron Capital regarding the disappearance of Facebook.
Below is the analysis of Eric Jackson on why Facebook will come to an end by 2020. (Video can be watched here)
“In five to eight years they are going to disappear in the way that Yahoo has disappeared, Yahoo is still making money, it’s still profitable, still has 13,000 employees working for it, but it’s 10% of the value that it was at the height of 2000. For all intents and purposes, it’s disappeared. The world is moving faster, it’s getting more competitive, not less, and I think those who are dominant in their prior generation are really going to have a hard time moving into this newer generation. Facebook can buy a bunch of mobile companies, but they are still a big, fat website and that’s different from a mobile app. When you look over these three generations, no matter how successful you are in one generation, you don’t seem to be able to translate that into success in the second generation, no matter how much money you have in the bank, no matter how many smart PhDs you have working for you, Look at how Google has struggled moving into social, and I think Facebook is going to have the same kind of challenges moving into mobile.”
Ultimately, the end of Facbook will be result of the continuous revolution and emergence in mobile web technology and people instead of using desktops and laptops will shift to mobile technology, the technology in their hands.
