HP’s Next Tablet Arrival- A Windows 8 Based Tablet
For the past few months HP is one of the popular smart phones and tablet Pcs manufacturers and it has continued his efforts in giving other manufacturers a tough time in this sector.
This time they will produce a tablet PC having Windows 8 operating system and probably it will be launched next year but the ball is still up for its mobile OS.
Mr Meg Whitman, CEO HP said “We’re at the beginning stages of a new segment. I hardly think that we’re too late, the work we’re doing with Microsoft is extraordinarily compelling, ultra portables are compelling.”
The company will not sell or spin off its PC business i.e. PSG. But in official announcement company did not specify whether tablets, along with desktops and laptop computers, would remain a part of the company’s production portfolio or not but CEO said
“The company also plans to reduce the number of products it manufactures to give greater focus to producing a small number of quality computers.”
By this he may be was talking about the webOS with HP purchased last year with Palm worth $1.2 billion and the price slash of their Touchpad tablet to $99 last year also tells the same story as touchpad was also a webOS phone. The reason could be that Hp wants to enter in the tablet business with windows 8 for a long term stability in business they might have some other plans for webOS.
The Ececutive VP of PSG, Tom Bradley told L.A Times that “I think we need to be in the tablet business. And we are certainly going to be there with Windows 8, and so we are going to be make another run at this business…. We’re going to make decisions about the long-term future of webOS”.
The thing is that what will be the affects of this launch on HP’s tablet business and will their investment of
1.2 billion is going to be wrong decision??
